The Green Past Pupils Association welcomes all Loreto on the Green graduates as members.

Our aim is to foster and develop links between Past Pupils of Loreto on the Green and to support the Loreto Union in its causes.

We run a variety of activities each year to include an annual “At Home” quiz, a “drop in day” in December, a Mass for deceased Past Pupils, carol singing on Grafton Street not to mention our ever growing Past Pupils Choir Verdi 53 which has gone from strength to strength.

Earlier this year, I was delighted to succeed our immediate Past President Catherine Anne Dooley as President.

Catherine Anne’s contribution to the GPPA as President over the last seven years is immeasurable– the ultimate legacy of which has been the inception of the Past Pupils choir – Verdi 53. Coming to a venue near you!

We are delighted that Catherine Anne has agreed to continue her link with the GPPA as coordinator of Verdi 53.

We would also like to acknowledge the valuable contributions of Anne Cooke and Events Organiser Ciara Power as they retire from the committee.

This year marks 183 years since Loreto on the Green opened its Big Red Door (most likely green then) creating a tradition of education and personal growth which has spanned generations of families and Irish women honouring  the ethos of our founder Mary Ward that we should “Do good and do it well”.

We are  delighted that during this year of 1916 reflection, the recorded memories of those present at No 53 during the week of the Easter rising were unveiled and are presently on view at an exhibition in the Pro Cathedral  from 1.30 to 5.30 daily.

Any organisation is only as vibrant as its members. As a global movement with much to share amongst each other, we look forward to your input, suggestions and feedback as to how we can continue to grow our “Green “ethos with our fellow Past Pupils.  Please drop us a line at greenpastpupils@gmail.com . The evening started off at 7.15 with a wine reception. The show featured designs from Neillí Mulcahy, a past pupil, who along with other Irish designers like Sybil Connolly, lead the way in Irish Couture in the 60s and 70s. Neillí’s timeless collection was a huge hit on the night, and Neillí’s granddaughters, Maeve and Ellie, received a very warm welcome from the audience when they modelled some of her designs on the catwalk. Many thanks to the Bacon Family for making Neillí’s designs available to us for the night.

The jewellery of past pupil Melissa Curry was a big hit, as were the hats from milliner Suzie Mahony. Another past pupil, Perpetua Mc Gee, brought along stylish outfits from her boutique, Marians of Boyle. Many thanks to Perpetua also for dressing our guest models, Aisling O’Dwyer, Gaye Mc Loughlin, Clodagh Mc Loughlin and Annette Buckley who took to the catwalk like naturals! Louis Copeland dressed the six male models, all from the school staff, who entered into the spirit of the evening. As you can imagine, they received a very enthusiastic welcome from the students in the audience. The Junk Kouture creations were fantastic, and we are very grateful to Ms. Sarah Fynes from the Art Dept. and her students for participating in our event, and bringing a very imaginative and futuristic flavour to the night! We were also delighted to feature the gorgeous vintage outfits from the Vincent’s shops, put together for us by past pupil and stylist, Jane Daly.

Olivia Danielle, Cari’s Closet and All About Me brought plenty of glamour and glitz to the proceedings. Past pupil, Sonya Lennon of the Courtney Lennon clothing label presented her designs at the end of the night. It was a great high on which to close the evening.

Mandy Maher, of Catwalk Modelling Agency, organised the whole event, and the GPPA are very grateful to her and her team for putting together what was a very memorable night. They were a pleasure to work with. Thanks also to our MC extraordinaire, Dermot Langan who kept the show moving with his witty repartee!

With donations still coming in, it’s looking like we’ll be sharing over €3000 between the 2 charities, the School Soup Run and the Loreto Projects in Kenya. Thanks again to you all!!

Every year, the Hockey Club likes to do something of a charitable nature around Christmas time. Last Christmas they took on a major House Renovation task, which involved over 100 members and their friends giving up a few hours of their time one Sunday to perform a complete exterior and interior House Makeover. In the space of 24 hours, they managed to successfully renovate a dilapidated house and in doing so, greatly improved the living conditions of a family who had previously been living in absolutely terrible conditions.

On Sunday, 11th January, the Loreto Hockey Club will be taking on another challenge, this time in Barretstown Camp, Ballymore Eustace.

Project Barretstown Camp

Date: Sunday 11th January from 11am

Location: Barretstown Castle, Ballymore Eustace (30 mins drive from Beaufort.)

Requirement: As many volunteers as possible.

Action Plan for the day:

1. After a brief 15 min. video explaining all the services provided at Barretstown, volunteers will be divided into teams of Painters, Gardeners and Cleaners.
2. Painters are required for exterior and interior work in the Castle and Outhouses.
3. Gardeners are needed to remove hedges, bushes & weeds in the “Secret Garden”
4. Cleaners are required for all areas the children access, as everything needs to be sterilised and spotless in order to avoid the risk of infection to sick children

Barretstown will provide all paints and specialised cleaning materials required.

Barretstown Camp

Barretstown is a residential camp for children with a serious illness, offering a range of adventurous and challenging activities and supported behind the scenes by safe, medical attention and care. For children attending, Barretstown is a break from hospitals, white coats and medical treatment and a chance for sick children to be children again, to have fun, to make new friends and create new memories – all within the beautiful and magical setting of Barretstown castle.

All children and their families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food, medical assistance and round-trip airfares is provided. Barretstown is supported by donations and fundraising.

Barretstown also provides Bereavement Camps to offer support to families who have lost a child. See below recent quote from Hockey Club member Gerry Daly who tragically lost her young son Donagh two years ago.
“”Over the past two years, Dave and I and our two girls Aimee and Gina spent three wonderful weekends at Barretstown as part of a Family Bereavement Camp.  It truly was a ‘serious fun camp’. We did everything from climbing to arts and crafts, from canoeing to dancing and singing at meal times!!  We were spoilt rotten by the trained staff and volunteers. Along with 25 other families from all over Ireland and Europe we talked, we laughed, we cried, we shared the heartbreak of our losses and most importantly celebrated the life of our beautiful brave children in heaven.
I am thrilled to hear the Hockey Club are planning to help out at Barretstown thus giving myself and our family a chance to give something back to this wonderful ‘haven of fun’ for children suffering with cancer and their families.”

The choir continues to go from strength to strength, with rehearsals well underway for the Mass for Deceased Past Pupils, and the 2015 Evergreen Concert. On Thursday, 11th December, the choir will be taking part in the Loreto Union carol singing on Grafton St. between 6 and 8pm.

On Monday, 15th December, the choir will be entertaining the residents and staff in The Marlay Nursing Home, Rathfarnham. There is a strong link with The Marlay and Loreto, and Caoimhe and the choir members are delighted to have this opportunity to sing there.

Some of you may feel that, while not in a position to make a commitment to join the choir full time, you would be available for the Christmas carol singing expeditions. We’d be delighted to hear from you.   Please contact me at verdi53choir@gmail.com

Monster Table Quiz

Loreto College St Stephens Green Parents Association is organising a fun monster table quiz in aid of ‘The Blue Ribbon Fund’ Established in memory of Elaine Moran & run in conjunction with Heart Children Ireland, to provide practical support to Heart Transplant families.

The Green Past Pupils presented the second Evergreen Concert on Friday 26th April, 2013 at 8.00 pm in the School Concert Hall.

All proceeds from the night went towards the school Scholarship Fund.

A wonderful line up of artistes performed for a capacity audience , and it was a very enjoyable evening.
Many thanks to the wonderful performers who gave up their time for this very worthy cause, and to the audience who supported the concert and the raffle so generously.
The GPPA was delighted to raise €3750 for the scholarship fund.

There will also be a raffle on the night with a range of great prizes.
